Tio’s Tacos – Riverside, CA

I saw the photos, but I was completely unprepared for the art show that is Tio’s Tacos Restaurant. I have never seen anything like it save for pictures of the Watts Towers. It is an impressive display of folk art made entirely of found objects that were collected over the years. From the looks of it, nothing was too weird to include in these sculptures and found their niche there or on the decorated cement walkways leading to the restaurant counter in front. Need a drive that is about an hour away from the high desert? This is well worth it for the drive time, surprising and interesting surroundings, and walk-up counter food prices.

Sit inside or find a place to sit outside in the courtyard as you wait for your order to come to the table. On the way out, take some fun pictures with your kids – there are so many scenes to choose from that will make great Facebook posts. Just the two of you? Then before you drive home you may want to stop at the Mission Inn to enjoy the atmosphere there, have a drink at the bar, or continue on and check out the art museum just a block away.
