By: Simone Graham – Editor HDG:  With Mother’s Day just over a week way on May 13th this is a great gift for wives on Mother’s Day. Maybe some friends or the women in the family can suggest to their husbands that this would be just the right gift. It is fun to go with a buddy.

I remember when all Glen Ivy had was its large mineral pool, eight small dipping mineral pools at the foot of the large pool, the wading pool, and its mud bath. All it had was a small snack stand and a basic changing, shower, restroom areas for the women and for the men. I first started going there with a small group of elementary school teachers to relax at the end of the school year. We would “take the waters”, bask in the sun, and just generally decompress from the insane pace we all had to keep up to have a successful teaching year. Then the last day of school arrives and from one day to the next we could turn off the extra engine inside giving us that turbo boost to deal with each teaching day. The waters worked their magic, the teachers lazily shared plans for their summer days, and indulged in an adult beverage.

Today, Glen Ivy is three times the size it used to be since the 80’s with every amenity a spa should have. Aside from building five more types of pools to use, it has a coffee bar where you can also order food, an outdoor bar, cafeteria style in-door lunch counter, gift shop, salon boutique for skin care and nail care, and three buildings to house massage therapists.

Just getting past the luxurious changing room is a challenge; you do not want to leave it is so relaxing by itself. It has its own Jacuzzi and steam room in addition to changing rooms with curtains to switch from street clothes to bathing suit, and lockers to stow your clothes and tote bag. To get ready to head home, the showers have overhead and wall mounted heads to wash off the clay you will rub on your skin at the spa’s Club Mud section. Put your wet bathing suit in a spinner before you pack up to leave. Dry your hair and check your make up in another spacious area lined with mirrors.

The spa has numerous packages and extra services to enjoy, but I have to say that what Glen Ivy has to offer for the basic price of admission is plenty for the day.

Basic admission is $50.00 Monday – Friday through May 31, 2018 and $70.00 Saturday – Sunday, and Holidays; Fridays beginning June 1, 2018.
