OC Fair Opening Day: Free Admission Today ‘til 3:00

By: Simone Graham – Editor: Be there for opening day on Friday, July 13. From noon until 3 p.m. the fair is offering free admission and parking. Hours are Wednesday-Friday: 12:00 noon – 12:00 midnight, Saturday-Sunday: 11 a.m. – Midnight, Monday-Tuesday: closed.  Admission: $12 adults; $5 ages 60 and older (Friday deal, includes one free Ferris wheel or merry-go-round); $7 ages 6 to 12; free 5 and younger. Parking is $10 per car (see website for more details). Also, active and retired military with valid ID are free. Did you go to the San Diego County Fair and keep your ticket? It will get you free admission to the OC Fair. From Aug. 8 to 12: Free admission for active-duty and professional staff of police, sheriff, fire and emergency services departments with an agency ID.

Wednesdays Deals:

  • Until 3 p.m. you can get free admission and a free carnival ride per person, with valid donations. Here is what you need to do:
  • July 18: Donate school supplies valued at $5 or more. Will benefit Share Our Selves.
  • July 25: Donate five cans of food. Will benefit Second Harvest Food Back and OC Food Bank.
  • Aug. 1: Donate three new or gently used children’s books. Will benefit THINK Together.
  • Aug. 8: Donate five new or gently used clothing items. Will benefit Goodwill of Orange County.

Thursdays Deals:

  • Free for children 12 and younger all day.
  • Thursdays from noon until 3 p.m. get in free by wearing overalls

Here are some discounts:

  • Super pass: $40 for general admission; $33 for kids and seniors; it offers daily admission, a carnival value book, up to 10 general admission tickets for $10 and other discounts.
  • Fridays are Seniors Day when those 60 and older can get in for $5 and ride the Ferris wheel or merry-go-round ride once for free.
  • If you can get to the fair early on weekends, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., general admission is $7 and carnival rides require half the usual number of tickets to ride … on Sundays a $35 unlimited ride wristband can be purchased by 1 p.m. and be used until 4 p.m.
  • On Thursdays from noon to 4 p.m. you can sample select fair foods for $3 each.
  • Head to your city hall or local library and get OC City Coupons for $2 off general admission.
  • Ride the OC Fair Express and get a coupon for $4 admission. See ocfairexpress.com for more information.
  • Children can read two books and complete an online book report here for three free carnival rides.
  • On Wednesdays and Thursday you can take advantage of the $35 unlimited ride wristbands, which are sold until 5 p.m. and can be used until 8 p.m. On Sundays buy them by 1 p.m. and last rides are by 4 p.m.
  • On Fridays until 4 p.m. you can get $2 rides and $2 games.

  • Explorium Eating Contest for ages 5 to 18; daily at 6:30 p.m., sign-ups begin at 6 p.m.
  • The Magic of Frank Thurston, daily at 2, 4 and 7:30 p.m. on the Explorium Stage
  • Playing at the Hanger: Rumours – The Ultimate Fleetwood Mac Tribute Show, requires ticket
  • Playing at the Pacific Amphitheatre: RATT with Cinderella’s Tom Keifer and Lynch Mob, requires ticket
  • Action Sports Arena: X-treme Freestyle Moto-X, requires ticket
