Victorville Task Force to Conduct Illegal Fireworks Enforcement Sweeps

Victorville, Calif. – The City of Victorville issued an announcement reminding the public that all fireworks, even those considered safe and sane, are prohibited within the City of Victorville. The City has formed a task force consisting of Sheriff’s Department Deputies, Fire Personnel and Officers from the City’s Code Enforcement and Animal Control Divisions to conduct fireworks enforcement sweeps during the months of June and July.

Fireworks are strictly prohibited by the City’s Municipal Code, and violators will be fined up to $1,000, could receive up to six months in jail; and fireworks will be confiscated. In addition, the City will seek recovery of response costs if a fire incident involving fireworks is linked to a specific person. The public is encouraged to report offenders by calling Victorville Police Dispatch at (760) 956-5001 or to dial 911 in the case of an emergency.

“In our dry, desert climate; fireworks are a fire hazard; and each year thousands of people are injured by commercial fireworks across the country*,” said Victorville Mayor, Gloria Garcia. “We caution everyone to leave the fireworks to the professionals.”

In addition to the threat of fire and bodily injury, fireworks can also trigger episodes of post-traumatic stress disorder in some of our veterans and cause extreme distress for pets. Victorville residents are urged to extend courtesy to one another by adhering to the Municipal Code and refraining from illegal firework use.

Fireworks displays can be highly stressful on our four-legged friends due to the frequent and unexpected explosive sounds. Be kind to your neighbors and refrain from using fireworks . You can help keep your pet safe and calm by bringing them indoors to help distract them from the noise outside.

Members of the public are welcome to voluntarily surrender fireworks in their possession at any Victorville Fire Station without worry of prosecution. A list of Victorville Fire Stations and corresponding addresses is available on the City’s website at
